The key word for academic success is structure. This workshop will assist students with adding structure to their daily schedules, and will provide them with the necessary tools to obtain exceptional grades. Sessions will focus upon the secrets of time management, organization, test preparation, note taking, memorization, reading comprehension, writing skills, and more. Students will learn organizational skills, such as scheduling/planning their days, identifying priorities, setting up their daily planner, color coding, and pacing their schedules to accommodate both academic and personal tasks. This workshop will prepare students for success throughout their academic years. Each student will receive The Educational Advantage Study Skills Guide to keep as a reference aid. Minimum 3 students required.

SAT PREPARATION

The success of our SAT/PSAT prep program has established this class as a must-have for college-bound students. Raising scores up to 250 points and helping students score nearly perfect scores, our program assists students in achieving their academic goals. This class completely covers all sections of the exam. Students will learn techniques and strategies to find the answers when they have no idea what to do. The SAT prep coach will personalize the structured program to fit the needs of each member of this semi-private class (maximum 10 students).

With the SAT format change in March 2005, students now face a much more difficult exam, complete with essay writing, algebra 2, and trigonometry. Now students’ collegiate futures partially depend on how well they write, something never seen on the basic SAT before. This class will teach our time proven strategies and methods, as well as a variety of new techniques that cover every aspect of this new test. This class offers extensive personalized essay writing coaching for the SAT. Students will both learn the secrets to SAT writing and receive extensive practice and evaluation of their essays from their Educational Advantage SAT writing specialist.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: SAT PREPARATION

Would you like your child to be one of those students whom you read about in the newspapers because they scored a perfect score on the SAT? The secret is to begin practicing now. Time and time again we have seen our students who practiced extensively during our SAT prep class be awarded the highest of scores on the SAT. What you may not realize is that your child can do this, too, if he/she simply begins practicing at such a young age that by the time he/she takes the SAT in high school, it has become a simple habit. It is a proven fact that the more one practices this exam, the better one scores.

Middle school students are at an advantage with the SAT essay because they have the luxury of learning and perfecting their writing skills long before they will write for the SAT essay exam. As practice truly does make perfect, these techniques will come in handy for not only SAT, but for all classes as well. The verbal portion of the SAT is graded partially on a subjective grading system, as now essay writing has been added and people (not computers) will be grading that part of the exam. Who is to say that one grader won’t have a differing opinion from the next? Does your child’s SAT score depend upon which essay grader you have? The best defense is to simply develop solid writing skills that will be approved by any type of quality grader. Developed by Educational Advantage Director, Deborah Wallack (MA and Ph.D. studies in English), this writing class will teach and sharpen all writing skills and levels specifically for this exam.

MATH  CLASSES

These classes are perfect for those who wish to quickly brush up or fill in the gaps of a previous math level—or—for those students planning to work ahead & stay one step ahead of their school math class. Session I is the first half of the regular Educational Advantage program for that math level; while Session II picks up where Session I left off. Students will learn the essentials of that math level, & will be taught in a small group setting by an Educational Advantage math coach. Participants will be grouped according to grade levels (middle school or high school). Students are encouraged to ask questions regarding their own school math classes.
