SUMMER PROGRAMS: PRIVATE TUTORING AND ENRICHMENT ENGLISH CLASSES WRITING (5 days/10 hours) Choose your own dates, times, & location! This class takes away the confusion of paper writing by teaching the simple, yet elusive methods of organizing and expressing one’s thoughts in written form. Following the English standards set forth in the MLA Bibliography, students will learn to become comfortable with their usage through the hands-on experience of writing and revising their own papers. Through these revisions, students will be able to see their own progress and writing style development as they compare both their early and final drafts. Participants will be grouped according to grade levels (middle or high school). This class is taught in a small group setting by an Educational Advantage English coach. READING COMPREHENSION (5 days/10 hours) Choose your own dates, times, & location! Learn the art of analyzing, interpreting, and understanding the various levels of meaning hidden within the material which you read. Reading Comprehension I is the first half of the regular Educational Advantage program, covering such topics as: sentence completion, main ideas, themes, thesis, nonfiction, and informational passages. Students will be taught to recognize the important parts of a work and determine the significance of those sentences as they apply to the material as a whole. At the same time, students will learn methods to help them stay calm under the pressure of a timed test, as well as how best to effectively and quickly move through the reading material while simultaneously remaining focused and comprehending the material at hand. Participants will be grouped according to grade levels (middle or high school). This class is taught in a small group setting by an Educational Advantage English coach.
